Ruben Östlund won met ‘Turist’ in 2014 de juryprijs binnen de ‘Un Certain Regard’ nevensectie in Cannes. In 2017 scoorde hij zijn eerste Palme d’Or met de moderne kunst satire ‘The Square’. Vijf jaar later doet hij deze stunt nog eens over met deze ‘Triangle of Sadness’, een frontale aanval op de superrijken en het kapitalisme in het algemeen. Alle subtiliteit wordt overboord gegooid in deze wonderbaarlijke sadistische komedie die u ruim twee uur aan het gniffelen zet.

Na de New York Fashion Week worden Carl en Yaya, een stel modellen en influencers, uitgenodigd op een jacht voor een luxe cruise met als hoogtepunt een beroemd galadiner. Terwijl de bemanning voor de gasten zorgt, weigert de kapitein zijn hut te verlaten. De gebeurtenissen nemen een onverwachte wending en het machtsevenwicht wordt omgekeerd wanneer een storm toeslaat die het comfort van de passagiers in gevaar brengt…

Tandis que l’équipage est aux petits soins avec les vacanciers, le capitaine refuse de sortir de sa cabine alors que le fameux dîner de gala approche. Les événements prennent une tournure inattendue et les rapports de force s’inversent lorsqu’une tempête se lève et met en danger le confort des passagers…

Models Carl and Yaya are navigating the world of fashion while exploring the boundaries of their relationship. The couple are invited for a luxury cruise with a rogues’ gallery of super-rich passengers, a Russian oligarch, British arms dealers and an idiosyncratic, alcoholic, Marxquoting captain. At first, all appears Instagrammable. But a storm is brewing, and heavy seasickness hits the passengers during the seven-course captain’s dinner. The cruise ends catastrophically. Carl and Yaya find themselves marooned on a desert island with a group of billionaires and one of the ship’s cleaners. Hierarchy is suddenly flipped upside down, as the housekeeper is the only one who knows how to fish.
