Het Italiaans Cineforum is een jaarlijks terugkerende filmreeks die loopt van januari tot april i.s.m. met socio-culturele organisatie Il Caffè. Eén vrijdag per maand vertonen we een Italiaanse kwaliteitsfilm, telkens een (hedendaagse) klassieker (Nederlands ondertiteld), en met een inleiding in het Italiaans door Professor Mara Santi.

Matilde, Cencio, Fulvio en Mario werken in het circus en zijn als familie wanneer de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Rome uitbreekt. De circuseigenaar Israel zoekt naar een manier om samen het land te verlaten, maar verdwijnt hierdoor van het toneel. De vier vrienden blijven verweesd achter. Zonder werkplek verliezen ze hun plaats in de maatschappij. Als freaks zwerven ze rond in een door oorlog verscheurde stad.

Rome, 1943, sous occupation nazie, la Ville éternelle accueille le cirque où travaillent Matilde, Cencio, Fulvio et Mario comme phénomènes de foire. Israel, le propriétaire du cirque et figure paternelle de cette petite famille, tente d’organiser leur fuite vers l’Amérique, mais il disparaît. Privés de foyer et de protection, dans une société où ils n’ont plus leur place, les quatre « Freaks » vont tenter de survivre dans un monde en guerre…

Matilde, Cencio, Fulvio and Mario are family when the 2nd world war hits Rome. It’s 1943, in the turmoil of the conflict and the eternal city is home to the circus in which they work. Israel, the owner and putative father, disappears in the attempt to find a getaway overseas for them all. Our four friends are in disarray. Without anyone looking after them but above all, without the circus, they lose their social placement and they feel only as sideshow attractions on the loose in a city at war.
